Happy that he believed such a talk would be good too, Tari's smile stayed in its spot, though perhaps a little more sedated. She flushed a little upon hearing him say how she helped him, ducking her head a bit, before raising it to meet his gaze. I'm glad then. She knew what she said wasn't much, but she trusted he would hear the truth in them. As the direction of conversation turned, Tari walked in step next to Loki, feeling small next to the larger male, but not threatened in any way. I'm glad one of us knows. Her paws hit the ground lightly as she picked her way through the marsh. She may not have been there in awhile, but anyone who grew up in such an area never forgot how to travel quickly and easily.
Lady of the Marsh
The Queen of Akina lay stretched out on the ground, lids covering golden eyes and whiskers twitching now and then. She was not asleep, but she was sure close to it. The warm sun tended to do that to a lion, and right now she was in a particularly comfortable spot. Slowly, the other pride members had gone off on their own until she was by herself. It didn't matter all that much--she had had a fine conversation with her oldest daughter, who although hot-headed was doing the best she could, before Almira had finally taken her leave.
The chuff of faraway buffalo made her eyes open lazily, and she stared straight ahead, not willing to get up left. But her mouth was feeling parched at the moment, and water could be a big motivator. Rolling to her stomach, the lioness slowly pushed herself to her feet, rich gold pelt glimmering at the movement. Before moving, she gave a great yawn and stretched her back, popping the spine in the process. With that taken care of, she padded a few feet away toward a hole of water, bending to lap some of it up. Although she enjoyed lazy days, she rather hoped something would come along to spice things up.

Loki chuckled softly at her words. She was smaller then he but it was rare to come across another as big as he was. But he was also a rare breed with a larger mane then most... it added to his poofiness as his daughter once told him. He grinned softly before he spoke. "Yes well I try to keep track of who goes where or where I go. Not the best sense of direction." He said to tease her. But he knew exactly where to go.
Almost when Lothril heard the buffalo snort so did Loki. They had gotten to close. He kept an eye on it holding his head low. He didn't want any harm to come to this lovely young lioness that reminded him of his dearest Sarrah. There was a part of him that hoped somehow she had lived. She was hunting when they were attacked but... if she came back they would have gotten her. He took a deep breath. The buffalo had moved off and he slowed his pace down just a bit. He knew they were getting near. He could smell it almost.
Then with no warning and with out seeing where he was going, as he had been watching the buffalo, his leading paw sunk deeper into a pool of water and he ran into something. With a grunt and a tumble he found it fell with him. What on earth... Did he trip Tari?! Then landing with his hind end in the air... something under him and his fore legs tangled int he heap under him. He looked quite funny from this angle as he looked like a hog half burried... yet not.

Lothril The water ran down her throat, quenching her thirst wonderfully. As she often did, the Akina Queen silently thanked her luck in having lands where water did not disappear as quickly. Not to say it wouldn't, but it would at least last a little longer than in other areas. It gave her pride a it of cushioning, so to speak. While others had to spend energy looking for more, the Akina could spend it doing other things.
Suddenly, and without an hint of warning, a rather large something fell into her, knocking her off her feet and into the ground in a heap of legs and fur, whatever had hit her laying on top and giving her the brunt of the weight. By all that was in heaven! What had just happened? For a split second, she just lay there, gaze dark due to someone blocking the light. Then it hit her--she was being attacked! A reflexive snarl rumbled in her chest, twisting her fair features in a warning to whatever idiot had decided to attack her. She struggled beneath the heavy weight, and only then noticed that her muzzle was buried in a thick, and rather dark, mane. Mane? A lion? And then she recognized the familiar features of one she knew--dark coloring, a large size, but more importantly, the being had Loki's scent on him.
Lothril ceased her movements almost immediately, partly because she now knew she was in no danger, and also because the chances of her moving Loki off were rather slim. Instead, she shuffled to a more comfortable position, arching an eyebrow as the humor of the situation hit her. Over his shoulder, she could see the stunned visage of her daughter, and warmth spread through her now that she knew Tari was back. But Lothril turned her attention back to the matter at hand, speaking smoothly--considering the position she was in--but with humor in it as well, hoping to show Loki that she wasn't angry. Would you mind getting off me? I've tried, but as you can see, it hasn't done much good. A kind smile crossed her face, and she waited.

Loki was just as stunned. Still trying to figure out what had just happened! He grunted as the one under him started to move and growl. Oh no he'd tripping onto a croc! He whimpered unable to free himself then it stopped. By the gods he was still alive! He took a deep breath shuffling slightly and turning his head slightly. He realized just then and there... he was on top of Lothril! He could have sworn he just shrank into a little new born cub right then and there. "I am SO sorry!" Loki tried to get out of the mess but he was quite stuck.
After a few moments and still studdering..."I... I am.. gunna... try... and flip..." He said his voice breaking slightly. He was quite the shy one wasn't he in this situation. He took a deep breath building up his strength. He had to put more weight on Lothril. Then with a sudden burst he kicked the ground with his hind quarters and he flopped... right up and over... right onto his back with a THUD! He grunted for a moment but they were soon free of each other and Loki was still laying there a bit stunned... Was he in one piece? He didn't break anything did he? But what he did look was rather funny... on his back, legs tucked and spread like a stunned cub.

He struggled a bit upon realizing who it was, and she waited patiently for him to move. But he seemed to be having trouble, and Lothril frowned out of confusion. Suddenly, he moved so that more of his weight was on her, causing her to wince slightly, wondering what his plan. There was a great heave...and then the weight was gone. She lay there for a moment, blinking and welcoming the easy breaths she could take now, and a little bit surprised with the sudden disappearance of Loki. Upon regaining her composure, and noticing how ridiculous she looked laying the way she was, Lothril rolled to her feet, pushing herself up and glancing around for Loki. Gaze landing on him, she couldn't help the small smile at the way he lay on the ground, well aware that she had been in a similar position just a few minutes ago.
The lioness ambled over, rich gold coat dirty with mud, but none the worse for wear. Halting in front of his head, she looked down so that his face was upside down compared to hers. He looked, well, embarrassed--and she understood why. But it wasn't too big a deal--it was an accident, and besides, he had brought some adventure into the day, as she was wishing for just before he ran into her. Lothril bent, crouching to the ground so she rested next to him and let a smile play on her black lips. Don't worry about it--I'm unhurt. The words were said dismissively, and then a humorous glint appeared in her eye. I may be a bit muddier, but you are too, so I have found my revenge. A soft laugh echoed those words, a testament to her good natured attitude. I do have to ask though--how in the world did you not see me?

Loki still was laying there a bit stunned but then he heard something. His golden eyes focused in on paws... then to a face. Oh for goodness sake it was Lothril. He let out a grown as he was not in a glorified position. He took a deep breath his eyes looking right at her. Wait... she was smiling... now she's getting closer... His heart raced not knowing her next words. He was at her mercy right now. Then he heard her words. Oh well thats good she was unharmed. "Forgive me... I'm glad your not hurt." A soft smile came across his face.
As he was getting to right himself he heard her next words. Oh lordy... Well he had to tell her the truth. "Well I was out gathering my thoughts and I met your daughter... Then we talked for a few moments and I brought her here. But before... i kinda... ran into you... We heard a buffalo and I didn't want her to get hurt so I was watching it... and then my paw sunk into something..." He held up his left paw which was covered in mud up to his chest, "Then I ran right into you on accident and well... here I am.. looking like a fool... on my back and completely at your mercy!" He shut his eyes tightly to gather his thoughts. Oh what a blubbering idiot he was sometimes. He opened an eye looking at Lothril hoping she wouldn't take advantage of this so he could at least roll over.

As Loki spoke, the golden lioness scooted back a bit so as to allow him more room to move about. Her head tilted as he spoke of meeting Tari, wondering how that particular conversation had gone--nothing bad, apparently, as she was traveling with Loki. Rounded ears perked as the dark male mentioned wanting to protect her youngest daughter, casting a questioning glance toward Tari, who simply smiled back. So short a time...The pride has not been his home for long, and he is already trying to protect its members--and he has not even met Tari before, I am sure. Inquisitive gaze studied him, trying to make out his character. For a new male to wish to do that...Lothril was certain Crow would have if he had just joined, simply because he already had connections within the pride beforehand. But this was unexpected, though not unwelcome.
Then you deserve my thanks and gratitude, just for wanting to keep her safe. Her was warm and utterly truthful. If he had actually done her harm, the simple fact that it occurred while he was watching out for her own precious daughter would have been enough for her to forgive him. Black lips pulled in a mischievious smirk. Well,I was completely at your mercy just a few moments ago--I think it's only fair that I return the favor. And then, so as to make sure he recognized she was only kidding, Lothril gave a slight wink. Pushing to a stand, the Queen finally turned to her daughter, greeting her happily by rubbing her face against Tari's own. I am glad to see you again, Tari. You have been away for much to long.
Tari had stood, shocked and amazed with what was happening, as the two lions collided. Only her own self-control allowed her to keep her mouth from falling open. It was a strange sight, really, to see these two adults tumble along the ground like that, and she knew her sister would have burst out laughing. Tari however, managed to jut shake her head in amusement. When Lothril turned her attention, Tari enthusiastically nuzzled her mother back. I know. I am glad to see you too. The young princess paused swinging her gaze to Loki before moving back to her mother. She wanted them to talk, and it would not happen while she was around. So with the ease of the diplomat she was, Tari smoothly made her exit. But I'm afraid the journey is long, and I am now hungry--and there is something I wish to speak to Almira of. When her mother hurriedly agreed to letting her go when they had just reunited, Tari nuzzled the older lioness' cheek. Thank you. I will see you tonight.
Turning so her gaze was focused on Loki, the young girl gave a subdued, but happy smile. Thank you again, Loki. I hope I will see you tonight as well. With that, Tari bowed her head in farewell before striking out deeper into Kinamasi--eager to seeher older sister and let her mother have a talk that could help her.

Loki couldn't help but smile. Wait just a moment how was she at his mercy? He might have been on top of her yes but he had his forelegs stuck under her. He grunted as he rolled over onto his stomach shaking out his mane. "Well to be honest I thought she was my daughter at first but when she came near I saw she was not. But still even if we had just said hello I would have protected her. A buffalo can do a lot to a lion or lioness." He said softly. It was true. Least thats what he thought. Buffalo were not to be played with unless you had a nice big force behind you of three or more lions! He sat up soon after when Lothril went to her daughter. Oh how he missed seeing when his mate had done the same.
He took a small bow to Tari and was glad she was alright. Though embarrassed again by how he had not been watching where he was going! When he heard her words he smiled a nice happy yet goofy grin. "Be safe and be careful." His tone was fatherly as he wanted the best for her. He would always look at her like he would his Sarrah. He let out a soft sigh and looked back at Lothril. "There... is more I need to tell you..." His tone was a bit heavy and the hint of sadness to it. "The reason i left so early this morning." He took a deep breath moving over to a tree so at least they could be out of the sun.

The Queen's breath caught in her throat as she heard the protective tone only a father could use as he said farewell to Tari. Of course, his saying she reminded him of his daughter explained some, but still...never had she heard another, besides herself, speak to one of her daughters in such a way. Not even their own father. And it was a little strange to hear it from another. Golden head turned to him, eyes questioning, as Loki spoke once more, this time to her. The grief in his voice sparked a hint of worry, one that was only greater after the kind way in which he treated her daughter. As his great body moved toward a tree, he spoke again, finishing his thoughts. Why...he left so early? The statement confused her. What had happened to make him want to leave earlier this morning? She assumed it was just a desire to move around a bit, as was often the case. The worry in her heart spiked. What if there was a threat against the pride, against her family? But...the tone of his voice didn't seem to lend it to that.
With smooth grace, Lothril followed Loki to the shade, rich gold coat dimming as she entered the cooler area. Her haunches settled to the ground, tail moving to curl about her feet and face attentive. What is it, Loki? Her voice was soft, worried, no longer holding the kind teasing it had before. Is everything alright? Although she attempted to give no outward sign of it, inside her mind was racing with possibilities. Whatever it was, Tari knew nothing of it--Lothril knew her daughter would not leave if there was any danger or problem, so only Loki had to know of this. It was cooler beneath the tree, but the heat was still great as she waited for her companion to speak again.

Loki watched her. His eyes watching her paws as she drew ever closer. He felt like a lot cub afraid of whats to come. He took a deep breath finally being able to collect the thoughts in his mind. "The loss of my family. Tari knows a little as she found me... laying in a pool ready to drown myself almost." He was ashamed of that. He let his eyes be downcast from hers. Nothing could take that shame away. "I tried to pass their memories and somehow hope they live. I went out to greet the rising sun as my father before me did when one of our pride was lost. We did it for my mother who passed on in a hunt. Which is why I protect who ever I can from buffalo." Taking the time to draw a deep breath Loki kept his eyes on the ground trying to keep himself from showing the depression in his eyes and face.
"It started when I had gone off to hunt. I was giving the lionesses a break and it was early dawn. I heard a large thunderous noise but there was no cloud in the sky. I rushed home and there were humans attacking my pride. I saw the cubs... my youngest son and dughter... bleeding and motionless... my mate... a few of the others running off but being shot at by these things. I roared to get them to stop. But they only turned to me... to kill me as well." He finally was able to look up at her eyes eyes swelling from the shame and loss. "I ran. I was so scared and every thing inside me told me to run. Yet it was then I realized I needed to save them! But when I came back they were gone... nothing was left... not even my children... only the red stains on the ground..." He dropped his head as for the moment he looked like an old beast. One who was on his last days.
"Then this morning... I payed them tribute but it could not stop the pain. My heart I could feel it wanting to burst from my chest and run to them. I roared their names and for a moment... i thought they had come back. Thats when I saw Sarrah... But it was not here. It was Tari. I was blinded by the sheer joy that my eldest daughter had survived and followed me here! But I was not that lucky." He sighed wanting to just drop to the floor and give up on life at that very moment.

Lothril’s curious, tilted head righted itself as he began to speak, telling of his family’s loss. The curiosity as to why Loki was telling her this disappeared as she listened to his sad words. Her black lined lips were pressed in a tight line as the image of cubs bleeding on the ground, no longer to move, filled her mind. She could not even think of losing her own precious daughters—the ones she would be willing to do anything for to ensure their health and happiness. Teeth clenched as he mentioned his mate, reminded of her own loss two years ago. Except she did not even know Ibalo’s final fate. She struggled to control the emotions on her face, for hearing of another’s loss in such a horrible way was bringing back her own memories. Sorrow shone in the Queen’s golden gaze upon hearing of his mistaking Tari for his own dear daughter. She could well understand such a thing happening. Had she not, at least in the beginning, often mistook another for her own lost mate? The happiness such glimpses had caused her, only to be dashed to pieces like strong waves upon the rocks of a stormy sea. It was…heartbreaking.
Eyes fell to the ground for a moment as the dark male finished speaking, lost in her on memories. Kind and gallant…that was he had been like. Granted, Ibalo had also been a bit stubborn at times—but she was as well, and it had made their first meeting interesting. Simply because of the way he had acted, she found it hard to believe that he intentionally abandoned her and their children. But…the horrible, terrifying thought that he had meant to leave her, that he had maybe been unfaithful, still wormed its way through her heart—one that had been shattered and was only slowly being pieced back together. And..she was unsure as to whether it would ever be the same. She felt—no, knew that it never would be so long as she did not allow another into that place of her heart—but she did not know if she could risk betraying her mate in such a way.
A broken sigh could barely be heard as Lothril’s gaze rose to study Loki, slightly unsure as to how to react and why he was telling her this. Your loss…what you had cannot be regained. Voice was soft and low, saddened by what he had told her and her own memories. I…don’t know why you are telling me this, but you deepest sympathies and understanding. I too know what it is to lose someone you love. Her smooth voice wobbled slightly at the last word. Did she…still love him, or was it only the memory she cherished?

ooc - this is about my fifth try on this o.o
ic:
Loki looked like a heap of sadness that no one would ever overcome. His once bright golden eyes seemed dull and lifeless. He took a deep breath his mind seemingly lost in thought. If he could truly cry he would not have a single drop of water in him ever again. He looked at Lothril and the face she had on. He did not want to hurt her. In the short times they have been together she actually brought back meaning to his life... he had something to protect. "I am sorry... I know I shouldn't be saying these things but... I have no one else to turn to and, I see you as a friend someone who has known the pain of loss. Its something we can both relate to each other." He didn't want his burden to be hers. He got up and moved by her his head nuzzling hers softly as if to say he was sorry with out words.
He sat down slightly away from her feeling he invaded her space. "I guess what I am trying to say... is they I need a shoulder to lean on when times are hard. And if you need one aswell... I won't ever leave unless you wish me to leave." He wanted her to talk... to express how she felt of her loss but how could he say it? How could he say it with out hurting her with out making her cry. Its was a hard thing to do but he had to ask. "I am also... a good listener... if someone has pains of their heart... like mine pains... maybe I could help them too and help myself get stronger with them." He said looking at the ground between them.
