Plot:
The Weyrs, while they have been doing fine in recent years, have had a dwindling amount of population to take candidates from. More and more of the weyrbrats are not impressing, and the holders and craftsmen are once again getting edgy from their best children being "taken away to become part of the weyr" A young Tabansi Weyr Zirconrider gets it in his head, after seeing an odd mural from Honshu to go on a dangerous mission across the stars. After getting coordinates from a very old book that he finds, that has been sealed in a glass case in Honshu, the Zirconrider proceeds off to Old Terra and the this odd place called Usa (Oue-sah) The time that he jumps into is quite odd, and has a run in with a metal looking dragon that has a man inside of him. Quickly flipping through the book he finds another coordinant and jumps to the state of Washington, east side of the mountains. There he lands at a place that you and I know as one of the colleges, on their large science lawn. Many people come up to him, asking him where he's from, where he got his dragon, and he in return asks why there is so much greenery around and aren't they afraid of Thread? He passes out shortly there after from far to much dangerous jumping. Some of the college students take him home, the dragon following and they nurse dragon and rider back to health, the dragon picking off some of the weaker cows from the surrounding area. Proclaiming he has never tasted such good heard beasts! Though these ones are not nearly as filling since they arent the genetically manipped ones from Pern. So they lack a bit of the nutrients.The Zirconrider grows fond of his friends and all the better since his dragon says that these kids would make perfect candidates. The Rider explains the dangers of jumping that far in time and tells the kids to get their best "flight gear" on. The kids of course come back in snow suits and snowboarding gear and the like. Though they even have goggles that are far lighter than the ones he's wearing... They make the trip safely back to Pern and everyone is quite astounded at his finding. Will the kids in fact be able to make the transition to Pernese life with no phones, internet or microwaves! Will their bodies be able to handle the diseases and even more important, will they Impress?!
