Only the strongest will survive,
Lead me to heaven when we die,
I am a shadow on the wall,
I'll be the one to save us all.
Lead me to heaven when we die,
I am a shadow on the wall,
I'll be the one to save us all.
Liquid amber eyes surveyed the grassland that stretched out before them. Grass danced from left to right to the tune of the wind as the lioness sat crouched in the grass. Ears held high and alert catching every scuttle and scratch in the area. Sharp cat claws dug into the ground as Anan stood and stretched her back. A yawn ripped through her as her tail flicked from side to side. Craning her neck, she saw the open grassland before her. Antelope were scattered in clumps grazing but alert and ready to run at the slightest of movements. Anan wasn't interested in hunting, or at least not right now. Lazily, the lioness stalked forward, heavy paws falling on the ground with a thud. Antelope all around her paused mid-chew and scanned the terrain. In on moment they seemed content, and then in the blink of an eye, Anan was watching them hop away through the grasslands.
Noon day sun heated the lioness's back as she weaved her way through the lands. The northern lands is where Anan spent most of her time. She was most fond of these places rather than the southern where food and water lacked. With her cub-like spots, Anan came across to most as a young lioness despite her size. She hadn't lost her cub appearance and few spots still lingered. Matching those unique kind of spots, Anan also sported a black mask on her face. Dark fur covered the bridge of her nose and between her eyes, stretching up almost to her forehead. Liquid amber scanned the sky but nothing promising was found. Storm clouds chased the horizon as far as she could see, an ever present reminder that the wet season was here.
There was no doubt a storm would break out again soon, but Anan had no place to go which worried her. She'd need to seek shelter of some sort to hide away during the storms. Head up high, the lioness searched for any sign of danger, something to alert her to run, but found nothing. Most sensible others would bunker down with their prides to ride out the storm, but for Anan, a nomadic lion, she had no pride and so far, no place to ride out the storm. Ears flicking in annoyance of herself, Anan pushed thoughts from her head. She needed not a pride, she had herself and she knew how to live. It was all she needed. Right?
Paws flexing, muscles working, the lioness continued her walk across the seemingly never ending grasslands. She had seen no other signs of life but those antelope that had run at the sight of such a predator. Anan was content, having caught and eaten a meal just the morning before. Yet still at the thought of food, the lioness licked her lips, pink tongue parting the jaws, revealing her scissor-like teeth that did a number on anything she bit onto with purpose. Thunder clapped suddenly above head causing Anan to skitter to the right in fear. Settling her racing heartbeat, she looked up at the sky to see the rain clouds and their dark hazy colors. Any time now they'd start pouring rain down on her.
Emitting a small growl at herself Anan pressed forward, finding some sort of shelter, even a tree, would please her. It was not a safe thing to do, staying on open grassland during a storm. During the wet seasons there was no telling how long the rain would last or how hard it would come down. Finally, the rain clouds broke open and the beginning of the shower hit. Soft raindrops fell onto the buff colored fur of the lioness as she walked along. Ears and tail flicking in annoyance to the falling rain and lack of shelter, she pressed on in search of something.
As the rain fell harder and a bolt of lighting lit up the world around her, Anan found what she was searching for. A tree stood in distance, gnarled roots protruding from the ground but green leaves danced upon the top promising shelter. Hopes raised, Anan's stride lengthened into a graceful trot, determined to outrun the storm for now. As shade graced her back and rain no longer touched her pelt, Anan took in the scents around the tree. Nothing of importance was found, so the lioness settled in. Sitting on her haunches, Anan lifted a single front paw to her mouth and licked her with her long pink tongue. Using her paw she grazed the top of her head and repeated the pattern cleaning herself like any cat would.
Lightning followed the thunder and rain fell through it all. Amber eyes watched the rain fall and the grass dance more eagerly in midst of the storm. Setting a heavy paw back on the earth below, Anan lowered herself onto the ground, her large head resting on her paws, preparing to wait out the storm to her best ability.
There's nothing left,
So save your breath,
Lying in wait.
Caught inside this tidal wave.
So save your breath,
Lying in wait.
Caught inside this tidal wave.
