Amara ventured out of her den, which was basically a small cavern on high ground, away from the soggy marsh. She was worried that the water was too high. She glanced around, wondering why it was so quiet. Adia and Lothril were nowhere to be seen, though she suspected they were somewhere around here. Adia rarely left, except to go and learn from the queen. Amara smiled at the thought, but worried again when she turned her eyes to the water. She moved slowly down to the water's edge, and drank rapidly with long, swift strikes of her pink tongue. She drank until she could drink no more, as if that would make the water level go down. And she supposed it did, but not enough to be of any difference.
She went back to the entrance of the cavern, and called softly into it. She grunted three times, and at her calls she immediately heard the shuffling of little paws. She smiled happily to herself. Her stomach sagged from nursing and from the rapid loss of weight after birth. She chuckled quietly as the bigger of her two cubs staggered out of the darkness. This would be the first time they would meet another of their own kind, beside their mother. They hadn't even met Adia yet, though the cub tended to hang around a lot.
