Name: Rana
Gender: lioness
Age: 5 years
Color/Markings: Dark gold
Personality:
No longer a young adult, this lioness had become wise through sheer experience. Those who know her respect her advice and many seek her out for it, although it can sometimes be cryptic and hard to understand.
Kind and amiable, she does not jump to conclusions, knowing that such a quick temper can be dangerous, especially around those stronger than her. However, do not think she is physically weak. Just as time has made her wise, it has also made her strong, and with her large, muscular body she can easily overcome all but the most difficult prey by herself.
Other: In her life, she has been a part of many prides. The first one, the one she was born into, was….not the best place to grow up. You see, within her large pride two clans were created when her mother’s king conquered the neighboring pride. She had yet to be born, but the hatred that came from that was still simmering when she entered the world.
She had a sister, a twin, actually, and an older brother as well. The clan loved her and her sister, but the males often watched them for one reason only. Safety was in the number of your family, and to be strong the males had to have children. Her family just happened to be a particularly large one, and any male who managed to become a part of it was lucky. But they were not all willing to play fair in getting that, and many a time her brother had to…discourage the other males from her and her sister. So in this place, where the two opposing bloodlines fought and killed each other for no reason save for the hate they bore for one another; he did his best to protect them.
But he was only one, and the time came when Because was not there. She didn’t know exactly what happened, save that her sister and brother were in an argument. But it was night, her sister ran off, and Because did not follow. She was found, alone, by five males of the opposing clan, and though she was strong—one had to be to survive—she was no match for them.
The next day, worried for her sister, Rana had searched for her. Her fears were confirmed when she found her torn and bloodied body. The males had dragged her as close to her home as they dared before leaving her for discovery. The anger she felt was greater than any before that—but despite her youth, she was not so naive as to think a lone female could exact vengeance from five males. But when her brother found out…such things did not keep him from going after the murderers. He would have been killed as well, but a stranger saved him. He followed Because home and she could tell Because was…not happy about that. That he thought him an annoying fool was obvious…but without him they would not have survived.
Sometimes she caught him watching her, but it was nothing to be worried about. He did not have the same…hunger in his eyes the other males had. So she ignored it and the trio eventually became friends. But then…Okaji, that fool Okaji decided to start a rebellion because he wanted to be the leader. It was found out before anything could come of it….but he was the nephew of the leader’s wife and managed to make it look like others were planning it—namely Rana and Because.
They were sentenced to death—not that the two wouldn’t go down fighting. Not that Rana would not find some way to take Okaji with her. The coward had come to her soon after they were sentenced, and told her about his part in her sister’s death. Her brother had not told her…or perhaps he had forgotten to mention it….but it was still true. She hated Okaji. Hated him with a passion that consumed her. She almost relished the thought of her coming death, because she would be certain to bring the coward down with her.
It did not happen that way though. Once again, their friend came to their rescue and they escaped, leaving the pride behind forever. They started their own pride, and it was great and powerful—but rebellion tore it apart as well. During that time, when she was given the chance to reflect on who she was and where she came from, Rana became known as a wise lioness, despite her youth. The realization that violence was not always needed was refreshing after an existence of war. But then the mutiny happened—this one brought about by the lioness her friend had taken as his queen. She was a pretty young thing, but she hid her conniving heart from everyone. Apparently, she wanted the lion she really loved to be king.
So once again, her pride, her home was torn apart. The trio wandered together for awhile, but they soon went their separate ways. Her…change during the second pride had made it hard for her to agree with her brother on many things, and with her friend…well, things just weren’t the same. Because left first, and then she followed, wanting to find her own way. To think that she was only two years old, yet had already experienced more than many others would twice her age.
So she wandered, sometimes temporarily joining prides and bestowing her wisdom when it was wanted, before suddenly leaving. She loved the life…but after three years of it, she was beginning to miss the comforts of true companionship. She had long since lost track of her brother and friend, so that option was lost. And so, subconsciously, her search began for a new home.
