It seems like a thousand years ago, but no, it must truly have only been two summers past. Most adult dogs can still remember when everything started to fall apart, and would whisper quietly to their children of the coming of the dark years in the secrecy of a hiding place, out on the streets wherever they were invisible to the Death Stalkers eyes. Though these places never remained hidden for long...
At first, the city dogs had lived in harmony. As in any canine-infested place, there were battles, but only the healthy fights that nature itself intended, for family structure and rules. Humans ignored the dogs for the most part, and worries did not hang about the animal’s necks as they did so now. But then... Then, Raven came to the city. Where he used to live - No-one knows. There are rumours, amongst the free dogs, he came straight from the fiery pits of Hell, but no-one can be sure. One thing was for certain - He brought death with him.
Gathering a small group of loyal canines, Raven stalked the streets, scaring whoever he could into joining him. The penalty for refusing - A lethal encounter that only one, the Bullmastiff himself would emerge from. Finding an old abandoned park, he set up base, and called he and the new dogs the 'Death Stalkers'. This pack grew in size rapidly, scouts being sent out amongst the streets to collect any free dogs they could find, and force them to join the demonic Death Stalkers. Raven watched power growing beneath him with glee, his intentions unknown to any of those unfortunate enough to serve him.
Then, things got even worse. Pack members could only leave by the dead of night, but if they did not return by morning then all Hell would break loose. Elite members, those who had willingly joined Raven so long ago, were given permission to make their lives a living Hell, ordering them around as they pleased. New members were constantly being brought in, and soon, the whole city feared Raven and his gang. No one was free, and every dog just knew that at some point, they'd be almost certain to make an encounter with one of the Death Stalker spies...
Now, the same scenario is holding on fast. Raven is at the top of his physical form, and rules everyone with an iron fist. There is no such thing as a truly free dog anymore - He just won't stand to it. He rounds up as many as he can, and forces them to join. He has never failed to reel in a victim yet. He orders dogs to battle each other, fight as long and hard as they can, to toughen them up for some un-known reason. Will the dogs not part of this evil pack ever find a saviour? Is all hope lost for the city of dogs? Only time will tell...
