Life is like a Rose
Sunset walked slowly through the unknown lands. In her mouth was her 1 1/2 month old cub Sage, which was sadly blind. And behind Sunset, trailed Sage's sister Shayna, who was getting farther and farther behind as we speak. Sunset should be all curled up in Shujaa Pride territory, but it seemed lately their had been nobody around, so she knew it was best to just go her own way with her surviving cubs. Her mind drifted to Razi, her beloved mate, and father of these cubs, who had been a victim of man. She let out a sad sigh as she stopped and looked at Shayna. She quickly set Sage down, burying him in the grass, and ran to go grab up tired Shayna. She picked her up gently and ran back to Sage. This world was cruel, and their was no real safe place for a female and her two cubs. She had to hunt, she hadn't eaten in days, but how would she assure herself that her cubs would be safe in the long grass? She had always had to pride to lean on, but now who did she have? She had lost two cubs and her mate, how could she cope with losing her last cubs?
She stood up, burying her cubs in the safety of the grass. She looked back at them once more, as if she had to abandon them or something, then ran away, her eyes watering. She felt like there was a cord tying her and her cubs together and she couldn't go any farther. She dug her claws into the soft dirt, trying to pull away, but her mind finally won the fight and she went running back to her cubs. They needed her and she knew that she couldn't leave them now, at a time where they were vulnerable. But she had to eat. Just stop! She yelled at the sky, her eyes watering more, as if tears were about to come down in buckets. She had never felt so alone, so lost. But she was, with two cubs that needed her to survive. She wished that Aubrey was their, her beautiful daughter who would gladly watch the cubs while she hunted, but she had her own life now, her own chance to mold into a perfect life. Sunset looked at Shayna, who seemed dead on the ground from all the walking. The poor soul. She pulled her closer and began to groom her, but her eyes were locked on her blind little boy, who looked like he was desperately trying to see the world through someone else's eyes.
She felt a pang of sadness for him, and she felt for his sister. Little Sage was to young to use vibrations for walking, so he couldn't follow Sunset to give Shayna's paws alittle rest. She sighed and looked around. Thats when she spotted a gazelle herd. She knew she would have to hunt now. She let out a slight snarl to her tiny cubs and shoved them in a bush. She then crouched low in the grass, her tail twitching and her ears angled behind her, listening for any slight noise from her cubs. Razi please watch the cubs while I hunt She pleaded to the sky, then crouched even lower to the ground, her stomach being tickled by the grass. She knew a gazelle would not be enough to fill her, but she needed to eat, no matter how small the animal was, she had to eat for the cubs. As Sage made a noise, Sunset stood up, her head turning to look at her cubs. As soon as she had stood up, the gazelle's began to scatter. Shoot! She yelled, then ran at top speed after the nearest one. Her legs felt like they were going to fall off as she ran after the lithe gazelle. She let out a roar and gave one last effort. Pouncing, she barely landed on the animal, but she managed to make it fall to the ground. She stepped on it as it tried to get up, then she snapped its neck. She snarled and picked it up in her mouth, looking back where her cubs were.
She dragged the dead animal back to her cubs, but as she got closer, she realized Sage was gone. She franticly looked around, desperately looking for her baby. And then she spotted him, and a hyena was getting to close to him for her liking. She quickly made sure Shayna was safely in the bush before she ran to Sage's side. She let out a mighty, defense roar, her eyes gleaming with hatred. She stepped over Sage, her massive body hovering over him as more hyenas began to swarm her. Shayna! She thought as she looked behind her. More hyenas had begun to circle around her. Razi help! She screamed to the sky through her mind and she picked up Sage roughly in her jaws, then ran to the scene, her heart racing at finding her baby dead. She let out a muffled roar, making the hyenas back off a bite, back enough to let her get to Shayna. She found Shayna laying on her side, a bite mark showing clearly on her side. But she wasn't dead...not yet. She shoved Sage into a bush that had a small patch carved out of it, and the back was to thick to get through. She stood up and roared, trying to get the hyenas to back up, but they were moving in...fast. She moved closer to the bush, then picking up Sage and putting him by her belly. She wrapped her whole body around him and then looked at Shayna. She dragged her closer and put her in between her two front paws and began to lick the blood away from her side, trying to get her all better, but it wasn't working. She closed her eyes for a moment, hearing the laughing of the creatures around her. She opened her eyes and looked at the ungly creatures around her and then, knowing she could do no more, she placed her head on top of Shayna, her eyes seemed to be raining tears Help me She whispered, then closed her eyes and waited for life to happen.
