Blood hued paws hit the ground with a dull thud. The splayed paws kept walking. The creature bearing them snarled at nothing in particular. Why was he so angry? You may well ask. But you'll never know the true answer. For, Varrok himself did not know. He always claimed that he was born that way. But who'd believe that?
Varrok raised his head. His red mane rocked slowly with the breeze. Many thought him handsome, what with his rich gol pelt and red mane. But in personality he was way different. Varrok was always angry for some reason. It puzzled even him. A small deer leapt across his path but he did not turn a hair. he had eaten earlier, the reason of the blood stained paws. Lowering his head-angrily- Varrok carried on at a steady pace.
Why was he here? No reason. No problem. His paws had just carried him here. Varrok did not care at all. Only a place. That's all it was. Just a stupid place with lots of caves. And annoying...ouch...rocks. Looking at his paws with no concentration Varrok sighed. Always bad things happening to him.

At first glance, the caverns of Shimo were really not to her liking. The thought of dark, enclosed places contrasted sharply with her buoyant, almost bubbly disposition and there did not seem to be anything that would intrigue her young mind. But Asminia quickly decided to scout it out anyway. Maybe she'd find something of interest?
Rocks scattered the area--many small ones that she lightly skipped over, but there were several that stood over her small frame, casting her into shadow. What a great chance for some fun! With a bright light in her eyes, Asminia sized up the first one, crouching down and flicking her long tail. Muzzle open slightly in an excited grin, muscled legs launched her through the air toward the top of the boulder. The landing was graceful--but she soon found that the top was not as wide as she imagined, and her tail waved in the air as she attempted to steady herself. Seeing that her balance would not stay long, Asminia quickly leaped to the firm ground, claws digging into the ground slightly as paws slipped on the slick pebbles that littered the area. Ha! Didn't make me fall! Her call was triumphant and not quiet at all.
Continuing on her away, she decided to avoid jumping over the rocks in the future. Couldn't have someone seeing her miss a step and eat the ground, now could she? It really didn't take long for her to come upon another lion, though why a creature would be in this place was beyond her. Maybe he was here for the same reason as her? Nevertheless, she crouched behind a rock, studying the male for a moment. He seemed to not be interested in anything around him...but the lioness was definitely interested in him. His color was unlike any she had ever seen on a lion--never mind her short life. The luxurious, deep red mane flowed down to his back, where it was met by the deep gold fur of the rest of his body--save for the creamy legs. Eyes widened as she watched him walk steadily. He was older than her, no doubt...but what of it? He was quite handsome to the naive, flirtatious Asminia.

A new scent came into the air. But what did this matter to him? Nothing. Nothing at all. But it was a feminine smell. That interested him slightly. Looking up wearily he spotted the female hiding. His eyes brightened at the sight of a lion. He had been alone for ages. She was young but he didn't care. It was someone. Was she the one who'd he had heard earlier? Whatever. Maybe he should go to her. He sighed and walked up. His eyes were tired as he approached. Hello, young miss he said, in a false cheery voice. I'm Varrok, and you are? He did want to talk. He'd been alone for so long.

As the older lion made his way toward her, Asminia pressed herself into the ground, trying to stay hidden. She liked watching him from afar! But it was not to be. Although it was obvious he had already seen her, when he directly addressed her she knew her cover was blown. Jumping up into a sitting position, a huge grin covered her face. I'm Asminia--glad to meet you! Her cheery voice echoed across the rocks and she hurridly continued on. I was't meaning to spy on you, sir! I was just... Trailing off, the lioness shrugged lamely. ...admiring you.
Not the type to stay still for long, Asminia's dancing eyes lifted upwards again, meeting those of her companion. Already quite a small lioness, she felt exceptionally insignificant next to this large male who called himself Varrock. And she felt compelled to tell him so. A slight giggle issued from her mouth before speaking. You know, you make me feel really tiny. A happy smirk appeared. Just thought I'd let you know. Rising and stepping around a rock, she placed one of her small paws next to his larger ones. Really though! Look at the difference! It never crossed her mind that Varrock may not appreciate her suddenly coming closer, for to her a simple 'hello' was a reason to be friends.

Varrok's eyes brightened at her words. Nice to see you, Asminia he said dully. He was tired and angry...yet again. Sighing he shook his mane. Sure, it was mucky and dirty. But so what? He used to care dearly for his appearance, but that was no more. Bracing himself for the sudden surge of angriness...But wait! It wasn't coming. Almost purring-why would he do that?- Varrok's attention turned fully to Asminia.
Her next words nearly made him howl in laughter. She needn't point that out! With a smirk playing on his dry lips Varrok spoke. Difference? Ah yes. Great difference it was boring, but anything would do. Looking at her Varrok's face broke into a smile. Wow. he hadn't done that in...months. It seemed that the young lioness was thawing through his icy anger.

The young lioness tilted her head slightly at Varrock's flat greeting. Even she could tell that he didn't seem to be the happiest of sorts, and Asminia wondered briefly if this had been a good idea. Her thoughts were interrupted when he shook his bushy mane out, causing some dust to float in the air and making her sneeze when she accidentally inhaled some. Mortified, she glanced up at him. She was lucky enough to be facing away from him, but it was still embarrassing!
She caught his slight smirk when her gaze met his and a small smile grew on her face when she saw he was amused by her statement. But when the smile broke out on his face...as cliche as it sounds, it was if the sun was bursting through the grey clouds. It lit up his entire face and only made Asminia grin wider. But she soon threw her attention to his reply.
Arching an eyebrow, her voice took on a serious air, which really did not suit her youthful spirit. It would only take a quick glance at her merry eyes though, to see that her words were teasing. Are you mocking me, sir? I seem to hear a bit of sarcasm in your voice. Above all else, Asminia enjoyed good fun. She did not grow angry when others had their own fun at her expense. Really, what was the point if you could not laugh at yourself?

Sarcasm? Oh yes, I believe so Varrok mocked. How he loved sarcasm. It allowed you to change your words in a suitable way. Like...Wow! Your fur is like SO amazing! That was sarcasm. Good sarcasm. Varrok grinned at Asminia and felt his whole had feel lighter. Wow. Smiling did work then. He'd never thought it would. Wow...how AMAZING! That was sarcasm. Cool. What was he? A sarcastic jerk? No, of course not! How could he, Varrok be a sarcastic jerk? He was too...nothing. He was nothing. Great...he was a nothing. Oh, had he mentioned a sarcastic jerk? And sad and angry? No! But that was what he was. I'm nothing he whispered.

Oh good! She seemed to be pulling this dark lion into a happier mood. How could anyone be sad for long? It just didn't seem possible. Silently congratulating herself on a job well done, she nearly missed his next quiet statement. The sudden change threw her off for a moment--wasn't he happy just a moment ago? She...didn't know how to deal with this sort of mood and it made her uncomfortable. Still, she couldn't just leave him now. Nothing, sir? If you were 'nothing' you would not be here. Yet I'm pretty sure I see a large lion beside me.
Asminia really had no clue in how she should reply to this strange outburst, but as always, she tried her best. She waited, watching for an answer, or at least a spoken word. The young lioness was not the sort to sit in companionable silence, talking and action seemed to be more of her thing. While contemplating this, words were muttered under her breath. Of course, that seems to be why so many don't like to have me around... Suddenly realizing she had given vice to her thoughts, Asminia looked up, embarrassed, and wondering if he had heard. Silently, she prayed to herself that he hadn't--but Asminia had always been in possession of that annoying habit of talking to herself without realizing it.
