This is just a little hunting guide so everyone has an idea of what their characters are hunting. There's no need to hunt just these animals and it doesn't need to be followed exactly--there are always exceptions! This is just to give a little insight--it's more like a guideline.^^ Animals will be added as I find time and I will try to get picture up soon.
Keep in mind that, as a rule, male lions are stronger than females, but slower. So the fast prey, like gazelle, are going to be much for difficult for a male to catch.
PREY: African (or Cape) Buffalo
ENVIRONMENT: Akuco, Beseni, Kinamasi, Furiko, Misitu, Poriuma
CHARACTERISTICS: Large and relatively slow. Adults are usually dark gray or black and calves are reddish-brown. Both males and females have heavy, ridged horns.
DIFFICULTY: Hard. Buffalo are unpredictable and dangerous if cornered or wounded. They have been known to try and rescue a member who has been caught.
NUMBER NEEDED: For lionesses, at least three or four. Males have been known to kill adult buffalo on their own.
NOTES:
PREY: African Elephant
ENVIRONMENT: Eiroka, Beseni, Majito, Misitu, Johari, Poriuma
CHARACTERISTICS: The largest land-dwelling animal, it moves slowly until scared or upset.
DIFFICULTY: Very hard. Elephants are large, powerful, and dangerous, but the calves are more vulnerable. They have been known to kill lions without reason.
NUMBER NEEDED: Six at the very least.
NOTES: Lions seldom attack elephants, but usually attack calves or young adults when they do. There is no recorded instance of lions attacking a full grown male.
PREY: Eland
ENVIRONMENT: Akuco, Okari, Eisakuco, Paiwu, Suali, Eiroka, Kipia, Kipukusa, Johari, Poriuma
CHARACTERISTICS: The world's largest and slowest antelope. Both males and females have horns.
DIFFICULTY: Medium. Although slow, Eland have much endurance and are capable of jumping an 8 foot fence from a standstill.
NUMBER NEEDED: Three lionesses.
NOTES:
PREY: Grant's Gazelle
ENVIRONMENT: Akuco, Okari, Iarox, Eisakuco, Paiwu, Eiroka, Beseni, Furiko, Majito, Johari, Kipukusa, Poriuma
CHARACTERISTICS: Slightly larger than the Thomson's Gazelle, they are fast and possess horns.
DIFFICULTY: Medium. Like the Thomson's Gazelle, they are easy to kill once caught. Males also have a hard time catching them.
NUMBER NEEDED: One or two.
NOTES:
PREY: Gemsbok (or Oryx)
ENVIRONMENT: Paiwu, Eihan, Suali, Korongo, Eiroka, Orai
CHARACTERISTICS: A large antelope with males having thick, parallel horns
DIFFICULTY: Medium. They have been known to gore attacking lions with their horns.
NUMBER NEEDED: Two or three lionesses.
NOTES: The gemsbok is instrumental to the survival of any predator in the Lands of the South.
PREY: Impala
ENVIRONMENT: Akuco, Okari, Iarox, Eisakuco, Eiroka, Majito, Kipukusa, Johari, Poriuma
CHARACTERISTICS: The impala is medium-sized and travels in large groups. It is a fairly common prey animal.
DIFFICULTY: Medium. Impala are known for leaping in a seemly unorganized “explosion” when startled.
NUMBER NEEDED: One lioness can take one down, but its speed may require the help of another.
NOTES:
PREY: Kudu
ENVIRONMENT: Eisakuco, Paiwu, Eiroka, Misitu, Kipia, Kipukusa, Poriuma
CHARACTERISTICS: This large creature is known for its long, spiraling horns. They are bluish-gray, grayish-brown or rust color.
DIFFICULTY: Medium. The kudu is larger than some other prey animals, but it does not have the stamina or speed to escape predators over open terrain. They instead rely on dense cover and rocky hillsides that lions cannot navigate as easily.
NUMBER NEEDED: Two or three lionesses.
NOTES:
PREY: Springbok
ENVIRONMENT: Akuco, Okari, Eisakuco, Paiwu, Suali, Eiroka, Beseni, Furiko, Misitu, Kipukusa, Poriuma
CHARACTERISTICS: A medium-sized born and white gazelle known for going into bouts of repeated high leaps when nervous or excited.
DIFFICULTY: Medium. The Springbok is fast and belongs to large herds.
NUMBER NEEDED: One lioness. It is very difficult for a male to catch one.
NOTES:
PREY: Thomson's Gazelle
ENVIRONMENT: Akuco, Okari, Iarox, Eisakuco, Paiwu, Eiroka, Beseni, Furiko, Majito, Johari, Kipukusa, Poriuma
CHARACTERISTICS: Average-sized with males having long horns and females much smaller ones. They are extremely fast and have a bounding leap to escape predators.
DIFFICULTY: Medium. Although easy to kill once caught, their speed makes them difficult. Males have an especially hard time catching them.
NUMBER NEEDED: One or two.
NOTES:
PREY: Warthog
ENVIRONMENT: Akuco, Okari, Eisakuco, Eiroka, Kipukusa
CHARACTERISTICS: Medium-sized, their tusks are capable of inflicting severe wounds.
DIFFICULTY: Medium. Warthogs tend to run to their burrow when pursued. If caught, one must watch out for their tusks.
NUMBER NEEDED: One.
NOTES: A favorite prey of young, nomadic males.
PREY: Wildebeest
ENVIRONMENT: Akuco, Okari, Iarox, Eisakuco, Eiroka, Beseni, Furiko, Majito, Johari, Poriuma
CHARACTERISTICS: A large-sized antelope, the wildebeest is a staple prey of lions. Their yearly migration is the largest of any mammal in the world.
DIFFICULTY: Medium. They have no particular defense save for running.
NUMBER NEEDED: Only one is needed for the young/small/sick, but at least two are needed to bring down an adult.
NOTES:
PREY: Zebra
ENVIRONMENT: Akuco, Okari, Iarox, Eisakuco, Paiwu, Eiroka, Beseni, Kinamasi, Furiko, Majito, Misitu, Kipia, Kipukusa, Johari, Poriuma
CHARACTERISTICS: A large, striped prey animal. It is a very adaptable grazer and an important prey animal.
DIFFICULTY: Medium. Their great stamina allows them to outpace predators. They often zig-zag from side to side to escape and will kick a lion when cornered.
NUMBER NEEDED: Two or three are needed for an adult.
NOTES:
